About

Born and raised in the Philippines, I never imagined living anywhere else. To me, it was quite simple: home is where you’re at, so make the best of it. That’s how I’ve always lived my life.

And then one day, it all changed. On April 2008, I will be moving to Canada with my wife and 12-year old son. At 42, it is a bold move. We start all over again. But I know it’s going to be fun as doing it together as a family.

We created this blog to share our story with friends and relatives. Although we’re not trying to hide our identity, we do want to keep a level of privacy. So we won’t mention names or go into very specific details. Most of those who’ll be following our story know who we are. For the rest, I will be Juan, married to Maria, and we have a son named Pedro.

Sorry, no comments (for now)

The beauty of a blog and social networks is the ability for the reader to participate in the discussion in the form of comments and feedback. However, during our first few months in Canada, I’d like to focus on getting properly settled. In as much as I’ll make an effort to share our story, I may not have the time to interact with everyone. So comments are disabled for now.

About the Domain Name

We first came across the phrase “Embracing Canada” from a special project by RCI (see below). When you embrace someone or something, you make a conscious decision to love it. And you take the good with the bad. Although we believe Canada is a better option for us, we know it’s not going to be all milk and honey. Just like living anywhere else in the world, there will be difficult times.

But like I said, home is where we’re at and we will make the best of it. So embracing Canada means embracing our new home.

About RCI’s Embracing Canada

Embracing Canada is a special feature on Radio Canada International. This project began in 2006 and followed the lives of a Brazilian couple’s migration to Quebec last August 2007. As of March 2008, they have added the stories of a Moroccan family who migrated to Montreal in March 2008 and an Indian family who arrived British Columbia last April 2008.
